History of Norton Motorcycles

Some NORTON Motorcycle Manual & Parts PDF are above the page - Commando.

In 1902, more than 100 years ago, James Norton assembled his first motorcycle with the Belgian Clement engine.

After the WW1, James Norton developed a new series of motorcycles - how successful they were proved by the fact that they survived another world war.

In 1922, the goal was the serial production of motorcycles with an overhead valve, and in 1924, the victory in the “Tourist Trophy” finally came to the factory team.

During the WW2, the struggle for sporting success had to be postponed. Motorcycles Norton served in the allied forces, and served well - more than a hundred thousand cars were produced in those years.

In 1972, BSA was also in a difficult financial situation. The UK government offered assistance on the condition that it merged with Norton-Villiers, and in 1973 a new company, Norton Villiers Triumph, was formed.

At the end of 2008, after 15 years of owning the Norton brand, Stuart Garner, an English businessman and owner of Norton Racing, is launching a new 1,400 m² Norton factory in the Midlands.

A new factory in Donington Park plans to produce the 961 Commando.
